Clubs offer event-filled weekend at Quinnipiac

Last weekend was a busy one at Quinnipiac. Not only did students enjoy showing their siblings around campus, but organizations provided numerous entertainment opportunities for those without siblings.

The Hellenic Society offered My Big Fat Greek Fest in Alumni Hall with food, music and entertainment.

QU Democrats back on campus

The Quinnipiac University Democrats is a student organization that is re-emerging on campus this year to let student’s get involved in our government. Absent since 1996, this organization wants to spread and promote the philosophies of democracy as well as get the news out about Democratic candidates.

AXO holds annual formal

On Saturday, March 15, 2003 Quinnipiac’s chapter of the Alpha Chi Omega sorority held a formal for its members.

The formal was held at Amarante’s Sea Cliff, a banquet facility located in New Haven, right on the water.

According to Gina Carfi, a sophomore member of Alpha Chi, the majority of the sisters attended, as well as the Greek Advisor and Chapter Advisor.

PRSSA prepares students for jobs

The Public Relations Student Society of America, (PRSSA) is a student professional group on campus aimed at giving members an understanding of current theories and procedures in the public relations field.

PRSSA teaches members ethics, principles, and the awareness of an appropriate professional attitude that is needed to be successful in public relations.

The Society for Advancement in Management (S.A.M.) is an international organization that has dissapated on campus due to lack of support and interest within the Quinnipiac community. One student, James Huntley, is determined to put the organization back on the map as a Quinnipiac organization.

Ski club hits slopes

The Snowboard and Ski club is for Quinnipiac winter sports enthusiasts. Established in 2002, this club holds activities for partial day, all day, and weekend trips to nearby ski areas.

“I used to snowboard all the time at home so this is a cool way to keep up with the sport,” said Josh Zubrowski, sophomore.

SIFE panel urges students to start early

Students in Free Enterprise (SIFE) recently held a Young Entrepreneur’s Panel for Quinnipiac Students. The panel featured four Quinnipiac students who all own their own businesses.

SIFE is a national organization geared towards college students who are interested in a business career.

QU to host senior citizens

The Sociology/Gerontology Association is preparing to hold its annual Intergenerational Day, a time when Quinnipiac students have the opportunity to be paired with senior citizens from the greater New Haven area.

The organization is a community service club that encompasses members of sociology, gerontology, anthropology and criminal justice majors to get involved and help enhance their community.

Curtain bows on ‘Antigone Project’

“I don’t live to hate, but to love,” is a famous quote from Quinnipiac’s latest theater production, “The Antigone Project” directed by Dr. Crystal Brian.
The performance was an original play based on Bertolt Brecht’s adaptation of a Sophocles Greek tragedy.

Co-ed fraternity welcomes new members to service

Quinnipiac’s sororities and fraternities held rush week during the middle of the month. During this week, Alpha Phi Omega, a co-ed fraternity on campus. held events and information sessions for students who were interested in joining.

According to Suzanne Conway, head of Public Relations for the organization, these events encouraged students to become acquainted with the organization and helped them “decide whether or not the organization is for them.

CAP raises funds for less fortunate

Community Action Project (CAP) will collect funds for Heifer Project International, a program that produces farm animals for the needy around the world.

The non-profit organization works in partnership with congregations, civic groups and other organizations as well as individual donors.

TREE attends Winter Weekend Workshop

On Feb. 7-9, 2003, TREE’s (Teaching and Reaching Environmental Education) President Samantha Fish and Vice President Atif Abbas attended Outdoor Educators’ Winter Weekend. The event was held at Ashokan Field Campus in Olivebridge, N.Y., a few miles outside of Kingston.

Gospel concert at QU Feb. 23

On Feb. 23 the campus will celebrate a Black History Month Gospel Choir Showcase.
This Gospel celebration will feature Quinnipiac’s very own Gospel Choir.
This marks a special event for the Gospel Choir for this will be their first ever public concert.
The Choir will be performing three or four songs.
