Kerner springs back from injury
Posted on 05. Dec, 2007 by Zach Smart.
Typically, when a player suffers a season-ending injury, the road to recovery and aftermath can generate anxiety.
A myriad of top-flight players–the Miami Heat’s Anfernee “Penny” Hardaway, the Pheonix Suns’ Grant Hill, and Sam Bowie, the injury-prone stiff who was actually selected before a guy named Michael Jordan in the NBA Draft gaffe of a lifetime –to name a few, have seen their careers see-saw or go sledding downhill due to injury.

At the edge of the quaint campus of Quinnipiac University sits the bandbox Burt Kahn basketball court-where Queen Smith used to score in clusters, deliver pinpoint passes and lock up the opposing team’s top scorer.
Smith, then known as Queen Edwards (her maiden name), wrapped up a storied four-year stay as a Bobcat in 1996.

For the Quinnipiac women’s basketball team, a rollercoaster 2006-07 campaign is one they would all like to bounce from their memory banks.
After being pegged as one of the Northeast Conference’s premier programs (following an appearance in the conference championship in 2006), the Bobcats dropped to the middle of the pack.

Sophomore slump not a problem for Stevens
Posted on 10. Oct, 2007 by Zach Smart.
For the Quinnipiac women’s cross-country program, it’s become a daily regimen. Starting early in the afternoon, on the outside of the old, creaky Burt Kahn basketball court, a scattered core of runners fill the hallway. After a crucial stretching routine, the scene changes.

Brito finishes what his coach started
Posted on 26. Sep, 2007 by Zach Smart.
The trail that led Graciano Brito to Quinnipiac was both unlikely and unusual. Growing up in Cape Verde, a scenic republic located off the Western Coast of Africa, Brito did not play one game of high school soccer.
“All my life I was a basketball player,” said Brito, a former silky-smooth point guard who played for the 17-and-Under Cape Verde national team in both basketball and volleyball.

In a world where Division-I recruiting is a dirty, cut-throat business, Quinnipiac goalie Chloe Beizer’s story reads much like a fairy tale.
After a three-year stay at Yale, one that saw her suffer a career-threatening ankle injury, Beizer transferred to Quinnipiac after a one-year hiatus.

Stottler’s shot sends men’s lacrosse team to OT win
Posted on 17. Apr, 2007 by Zach Smart.
Mike Stottler knew at the season’s start that being plunged into a leadership role would entail coming through in the clutch, something the Quinnipiac men’s lacrosse team hasn’t done enough of in recent years.

Senior Day turns sour for women’s lacrosse team
Posted on 17. Apr, 2007 by Zach Smart.
For head coach Danie Caro and the Quinnipiac women’s lacrosse team, it has morphed into a typical headliner of the season.
An opponent reels off a potent spurt in the first half and the Bobcats (7-5, 5-2 NEC) claw back in a second-half clock fight. Friday, that second-half fight wasn’t enough as the Bobcats fell to Sacred Heart, 13-11, on Senior Day.
