Quinnipiac University professors have won awards in the past, but recently three professors have been nominated for an award that many would normally associate with the entertainment industry rather than academia.

David Ives, executive director of the Albert Schweitzer Institute, Rebecca Abbott and Liam O'Brien, both professors of Communications, and former Communications student David Blanchard, produced a documentary about Albert Schweitzer that has received an Emmy nomination.

Staff Sgt. Eric Alva, a former U.S. Marine, used the inspiring words of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. when talking to Quinnipiac students about how their voices can change history, by standing up for what is right.

"Our lives begin to end the day we become silent about the things that matter," said Alva, who visited Quinnipiac on April 15 in conjunction with the National Day of Silence, held on Friday, April 25, which brings attention to anti-Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, and Transsexual (GLBT) actions from throughout the country.

As the school year winds down and the weather gets warmer, one thing is clear: the summer movie season is upon us. Well, perhaps it's a bit clearer if you're the type of film junkie who lives for this time of year. Nevertheless, there's a good chance that no matter who you are, you'll fork out more cash at your local cinema over the summer than you will during any other time of year.

Panic at the Disco has dropped the exclamation point in their name and along with it, dropped the teen angst circus act that made them so heavily criticized by listeners.

"A Fever You Can't Sweat Out," the band's first full length CD that skyrocketed them into stardom, was criticized by people outside the scene as sounding like Fall Out Boy and praised by fans of the scene for being quite different than the typical pop/punk that was being released.

The remake of the 1980 film of the same name featuring scream queen Jamie Lee Curtis opened in theaters April 11. With its PG-13 rating, it's no surprise that it topped the box office that weekend, raking in just over $20 million.

The movie revolves around pretty Donna (Brittany Snow), a high school senior who is about to attend prom, what is supposed to be the night she would always remember.

Life is change. We can embrace it. We can ignore it to our detriment. Or we can question it in the hopes that we can alter its inevitable march.

When pondering the changes proposed by the Quinnipiac University administration for The Chronicle, I want to see the proposals as fruitful and courageous, but I see the changes more as an abdication of duty.

Dear Alicia

This year is coming to a close and since this is the last issue of the Chronicle, it is also the last Dear Alicia column… ever. It is sad and depressing because I don't get to give advice anymore, but also because it means that I am soon to be a Quinnipiac graduate.
