According to Associate Vice President for Public Relations John Morgan, Moran has been “suspended from the university pending the outcome of his disciplinary hearing.”

Moran, from Parlin, N.J., was released with a written promise to appear in court, and charged with possession of marijuana, possession of marijuana with intent to sell, and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Hamden Police were called to the scene at 2:30 p.m. after Quinnipiac security detained Moran.

Moran will appear in Meriden Superior Court on March 9.

This is the second major drug arrest to occur on campus in the last month, as freshman Mathew Scherl was expelled after cocaine and marijuana were discovered in his Perlroth dorm room.

When will the freshmen realize you can’t do the whole drug thing here? (And I know some upperclassmen have done it this year too, but it seems like majority freshmen.)

              All Right:

Though there may be sexual assaults on campus, those students have not been arrested and/or charged with a crime.

If you do ever hear of something you think needs to be reported on, please let us know and we will look into it.

              Dear ‘All Right':

I’d like to call your attention to something called the Jean Clery Act. It is a federal law that mandates all colleges and universities across the U.S. to disclose information about crime on and around their campus.

If you look up the amount of sexual offenses, forcible, and non forcible, you have 2 in 2008, 2 in 2007, and 4 in 2006. 8 in the past 3 years. In my mind, having only 1 is absolutely unacceptable, but let’s not be unrealistic, it’s a college campus, sexual assaults are inevitable. We can only hope we have a low number, which Quinnipiac actually does. Now, take a look at Drug law violations, and you get 150 for the past 3 years.

You claim that sexual assaults happen here, and should be reported on. The way you say that so casually makes it seem like they happen left and right, and you seem to be quite knowledgeable about them as well. I would suggest stop hiding, and report them if you witness, because that’s the impression you gave off.

Now, back to ripping you a new one… If you go to the QU Chronicle website, and search the archives back to 2006, you will see, in fact all 6 sexual assault cases have been published. If you check if all 150 marijuana violations have been posted, you are in fact wrong, there are less then 20. If you want to knock Andrew and the chronicle staff, at least do some research before criticizing. The argument proves to be false, and if anything, makes you look like an idiot, because it seems what they aren’t fully reporting on, is in fact the marijuana violations.

              Thanks,

                Another QU Student:

The Clery Act of 2000 states nothing about disclosing information about crime on campus in a school newspaper available to the entire community.

one thing you forgot to mention is that the numbers that they show in security under the clery act are the only ones that have been reported…so dont think there have only been six sexual assaults on this campus in the past however many years..wanna know why sexual assaults happen….alcohol

I hope that the Chronicle will write about some of the freshman that are making a difference already here at QU. Although I do agree that this is a newsworthy issue, all of the publicity regarding freshmen using drugs should be contrasted with some of the freshmen who choose to make good decisions and enhance life at Quinnipiac.

    February 25, 2010 at 10:45 am

this is not news. it does not effect the campus community. in fact, selling trees might be a positive thing for the campus community, bringing people together, giving them more reason to go to an event, and eat expensive chartwell food, etc. have you ever heard of the invisible hand? this is defamation and bastardization of a fellow student. hes not an ax murdering serial rapist. hes just pushing some buds. as for you bringing up the jonh clery act, who cares? laws protect those who are already in power. just aint fair…. free pete….

whats ubelievable is how everyone just believes how marijuana is bad because the government says its bad…unbelievable how stupid people are…legalize

    • Dude

      February 26, 2010 at 3:09 pm

Legality of marijuana is NOT the issue here. The issue is that a member of our community broke a law and was arrested, and it is absolutely a newsworthy event. It’s unbelievable that people think that as college students we are not adults and shouldn’t be held accountable for our actions. Puh-lease.
