QU softball to play in do-or-die doubleheader this Saturday
The Bobcats (16-28, 8-8 NEC) will make-up a previously postponed series vs. Robert Morris (23-19, 10-6 NEC) this Saturday at 1 p.m. The second game is slated for Saturday at 3 p.m. The series was postponed earlier in the season due to inclement weather.
This series will determine who is in the playoffs and what the seedings are. Long Island has clinched the #1 seed. Monmouth and Sacred Heart have both clinched playoff spots, but their seedings will be determined by the outcome of this series.
If Robert Morris wins both of the games, then Robert Morris will be the #2 seed, Sacred Heart will be the #3 seed and Monmouth will be the #4 seed.
If Quinnipiac wins both of the games, then Sacred Heart will be the #2 seed, Monmouth will be the #3 seed and Quinnipiac will be the #4 seed.
If Robert Morris and Quinnipiac split the series, Sacred Heart will be the #2 seed, Robert Morris will be the #3 seed and Monmouth will be the #4 seed.
In the event that the Bobcats do win the doubleheader, there will be a three-way-tie for the fourth and final playoff spot. Mount St. Mary’s, Quinnipiac and Robert Morris will all have a 10-8 conference record.
Quinnipiac would advance because of the tie-breaking procedures. Robert Morris swept Mount St. Mary’s and Mount St. Mary’s and Quinnipiac split their series earlier this season. If Quinnipiac swept Robert Morris, they would have a 3-1 record against the teams in the tie. Robert Morris would be 2-2 and Mount St. Mary’s would be 1-3.
If the Bobcats fail to make it to the playoffs, this will be their second consecutive season failing to make the playoffs.
