Men’s lacrosse adds familiar face to staff
In collegiate athletics, it is surely not a rarity that a graduated player will take the time to help out their alma mater. In many Division-I programs around the country, no matter what the sport, former players return as early as one year after graduating and hop aboard the coaching staff.
Bill Romano, a member of the class of 2002, was a standout basketball player for the Bobcats, then known as the Braves, climbed aboard the men’s basketball team’s coaching staff this year.
Likewise, Scott Robson, who graduated in 1998, is currently an assistant coach for the men’s hockey team, moved into an assistant coach’s role directly after completing his legendary career as a player.
Just recently, director of athletics and recreation, Jack McDonald and Quinnipiac University lacrosse head coach, Eric Fekete, added a familiar face to the men’s lacrosse coaching staff, hiring former defenseman Brendon Talbot.
Talbot, originally from Shirley, N.Y., graduated in 2002 with a bachelor’s degree in history.
During his stay at Quinnipiac, Shirley was a four-year starter and remains one of the top defenders in recent memory. Talbot, who earned his master’s degree in teaching in 2003, played on the Long Island Lacrosse Club, which is a Charter Member of the United States Club Lacrosse Association. The team includes some of the finest talent in the northeast, and is nearly on the professional level.
Talbot will do most of his work coordinating and doing everything he can to help out with the defense.
Bringing to the table a great deal of experience, Talbot is expected to be a huge asset to the team. The Bobcats open their season on Mar. 5, as they head over to Hanover, N.H. to face the Big Green of Dartmouth College.
